Halloween 2019: Frightful fun for all ages

When Halloween falls on a weekday, the usually one-day celebration turns into a weeklong extravaganza. Here’s a look at Halloween celebrations for all ages and interests happening this weekend, and, of course, on Halloween.

Friday

Community Halloween Party: Bring a bag for trick-or-treating while candy lasts. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 6 p.m. Northeast Youth Center, 3004 E. Queen Ave. Free.

The Gigantic ’80s Halloween Charcoal Drawing Show: Check out work by artists in Drawing 110 presented in the Fine Arts Lobby and Aux Lox Gallery. Washington State University Fine Arts Center, 1615 NE Wilson Mall, Pullman. Free.

Spoopy in Spokane Halloween Hip-Hop Party: Join Brotha Nature, Exzac Change and Matisse, Willis the Realist and Rouzer, plus special guests and host Bendi. There also will be live art and free merch giveaways. 8 p.m. Friday. The Big Dipper, 171 S. Washington St. $12 presale; $15 at the door.

Eletkroween 2019: Those 18 and older can catch DJs Dawnchaser, Creatune, Storme, Raskl, 5quar3, Radikill, Terraform, Shauk and Domino at the Pin. 7 p.m. Friday. The Pin, 412 W. Halloween Party featuring Dirty Betty: No-cover costume contest with cash prizes, plus hourly drawings and free giveaways. This event is for ages 21 and older. 9 p.m. Razzle’s Bar and Grill, 10325 N. Government Way, Hayden. Free.

The Vaude Villains Present: Grave Tails: Vaude Villains’ sixth-annual cabaret show features performances from Cherry Chaplin, Nickie B., Kori Kopia, Nefabit, Crystal Explosion, Dick Daily, Alice D. Luscious, Ashley Kae, Molly Malone, Wild Iris and Kaylee Christine. This event is for ages 21 and older. 9 p.m. Berserk Bar, 125 S. Stevens St. $15. Tickets available through Eventbrite.

Boos and Booze Halloween Costume Party: Stop by the Palouse Knot Barn for the venue’s annual costume party. 8 p.m. Palouse Knot Barn, 1751 Washington 272, Colfax. $20-$35.Tickets available through Eventbrite.

Cauldrons and Cocktails Halloween Party: Join the Coeur d’Alene Rotary on the Rocks club for games, prizes, appetizers, a dessert bar, a no-host bar and a live DJ. 7:30 p.m. Ponderosa Springs Golf Course, 1291 N. Galena Drive, Coeur d’Alene. $30-$50. Tickets available through Eventbrite.

The Ghost Ball: The event, in its eighth year, features live and silent auctions, photography, heavy appetizers, a no-host bar, costume contest, dancing and a short program highlighting the purpose of the party. Spooky Family Dinner: Stop by this quarterly open studio potluck to visit with resident artists Amanda Caldwell, Brian Deemy, Grace June, Ira Gardner, Susan Vander Kooi and Tayler Parkin. Costumes are encouraged but not required. 6 p.m. Saturday. Richmond Art Collective, 228 W. Sprague Ave. Free.

The Pumpkin Ball: The Pumpkin Ball benefits Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital and Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery and features a three-course dinner, live music, pumpkin-carving displays, live and silent auctions, raffles and more. 5:30 p.m. Davenport Grand Hotel, 333 W. Haunted Hope Halloween Carnival: There will be face painting, games, prizes for costumes, pumpkin decorating, trick-or-treating and a bake sale fundraiser to help 9-year-old Aiden with medical expenses. 4 p.m. Saturday. Hope Marketplace, 620 Wellington Place, Hope, Idaho. Free.

Fall Fest and Apple Palooza: Stroll downtown Coeur d’Alene for apple-tasting events, plus hay rides, harvest produce, music and food. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Fifth Street and Sherman Avenue, Coeur d’Alene. Free.

Annual Great Pumpkin Race: During the Annual Great Pumpkin Race, hosted by Meals on Wheels, attendees, costumed or not, can participate in a 1K or 5K walk/run. Afterward, guests can race decorated pumpkins on wheels to the finish line. There also will be vendors, music, awards and more. 9 a.m. Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery, 211 N. Government Way. $5 pumpkin race; $25 1K and 5K.

Mira-BOO Bash Rockin’ Halloween Party: Stop by Max at Mirabeau for drink specials, dancing to DJ Dean Jaxon from KEY 101 and cash prize giveaways. 9 p.m. Max at Mirabeau, 1100 N. Sullivan Road, Spokane Valley. $20, available at the hotel or maxatmirabeau.com.

Baby Bar Halloween Weekend Cover Show: For the third year, the Baby Bar will feature bands performing as other bands. This year, catch Marina Obscura as the Go-Go’s, the Monties as Ween, Headless/Heartless as Jesus and Mary Chain, Ex-Pets as the Replacements, Balonely as ABBA, Atari Ferrari as the Rolling Stones, William Brasch as Bob Seger and the Shats as the Chats. 9 p.m. Baby Bar, 827 W. First Ave. This show is 21 and older.

Trick or Treat for a Book: Children 12 and younger can stop by Well-Read Moose in costume and trick or treat for a children’s book and a treat. There will be storytime at noon and trick or treating from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Noon. Well-Read Moose Bookstore, 2048 N. Main St., Coeur d’Alene. Free.

Trunk or Treat for the Animals: Decorate your trunk and bring lots of candy, or don your best costume and enter one of the following costume contests: dress yourself and your dog alike, best dog costume and best costumes ages 0-6, 7-11, 12-17 and 18 and older. 1 p.m. Spokane Humane Society, 6607 N. Havana St., Spokane Valley. $1 suggested donation. Bring a bag of kitty litter to enter a costume contest.

Goodwill Trunk or Treat: There will be free treats for children and trick-or-treat bag decorating while supplies last. Attendees also can vote for their favorite car from the Local Finesse Car Club. 6:30 p.m. South Hill Goodwill, 2927 E. 27th Ave. Free.

Dia de los Muertos Mask-Making Workshop: Make a Día de los Muertos skull mask while learning about the history and culture of the celebration. This workshop is bilingual. ¡Ven a hacer una máscara de calaverita y aprende sobre la historia y la cultura del Día de los Muertos! The Halloween Cover Show: Catch Heart of an Awl as Knocked Loose, Local Sports Team as Blink-182, 4x4 as the Acacia Strain, Stubborn Will as Alkaline Trio and Skunktopus as NOFX. 7 p.m. Saturday. Monster’s Ball Halloween Party: Stop by the Coeur d’Alene Resort for a night of drinks, dancing to a DJ and games, plus a costume contest and photo booth. This party is for ages 21 and older. Coeur d’Alene Resort, Plaza Shops, 115 S. 2nd St., Coeur d’Alene. $25 advance; $30 at the door. Tickets available through cdaresort.com.

Witch, Please! Stop by Spokane’s “hetero-friendly gay bar” for an evening of costumes contests with a $100 grand prize. There also will be drinks and dancing. At midnight, the first Butch Witch and Femme Witch of All Hallows will be crowned. Head back to the Blind Buck at 7 p.m. Thursday for Scaraoke. 9 p.m. Saturday. The Blind Buck, 204 N. Spark-o-ween: A day of creative learning and trick-or-treating awaits attendees of Spark-o-ween. Guests can help build a monstrous LEGO mansion, make a drawing that lights up and type a scary story on a haunted typewriter. Costumes are welcome but not required. 2 p.m. Saturday. Spark Central, 1214 W. Summit Parkway. Free.

“The Dog Who Saved Halloween”: Kinderhaven hosts this screening of “The Dog Who Saved Halloween.” When strange lights and sounds start coming from the neighbor’s house, it’s up to dog Zeus (voiced by Joey Lawrence) to save Halloween. The 2011 films also stars Dean Cain, Elisa Donovan, Curtis Armstrong, Lance Henriksen and the voice of Mayim Bialik. There will be a costume contest before the screening. 3 p.m. Saturday. Oktoberfest: Listen to Spokane’s German American Society and members of their Concordia Choir perform and discuss the history of Oktoberfest and German culture. 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Shadle Library, 2111 W. Wellesley Ave. Free.

Halloween Hafla Dance Party: Celebrate Halloween by belly dancing – watching or performing. Email kerm13@live.com to sign up to dance. 6 p.m. Red Dragon Downtown, 1406 W. Third Ave. Free.

Hauntings at the Bank Left: Stop by the gallery for an evening of dining and storytelling of “mysterious happenings” at the bank building. 6 p.m. Saturday. Bank Left Gallery, 100 S. Bridge St., Palouse. Free.

Halloween Ballroom Bash: Dress up in your best formal Halloween attire and dance the night away in a decorated ballroom with a DJ. There will be prizes for best costumes, plus food and drink specials. This event is for ages 21 and older. 8 p.m. The Roxie, 5201 N. Market St. $5.

Rosalia Halloween Fall Festival: The inaugural event features a dessert walk, crafts, wagon rides, a light parade, dancing, food and drinks, photos trunk-or-treating and more. 3 p.m. Saturday. South Whitman Avenue, Rosalia. Free.

Sunday

Halloween Drag Show: This show is open to all talent levels. Email thepinentertainment@gmail.com to sign up in advance. 7 p.m. Sunday. The Pin, 412 W. Sprague Ave. All ages. $5 21 and older; $10 20 and younger, through Eventbrite.

Wednesday

Throw Cash at Planned Parenthood: This benefit will feature a silent auction of local work, a “secret and hilarious” fundraising game and a variety show featuring drag, music, magicians, dancing, poetry, stilt walkers and more. This event is all ages, though 18 and older is recommended. Costumes encouraged. 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Pin, 412 W. Sprague Ave. Free for those in costume, $5 at the door without costume.

Michael David “Hallo-wine” Dinner Party: Costumes are encouraged at this masquerade wine dinner featuring Halloween-inspired courses and Michael David Freakshow wines. The first three courses will be handheld courses on stations so guests can mingle. The last two courses will be plated. Prizes will be handed out for best overall costume, best couples costume and best scary costume. 6 p.m. cocktails, 6:30 p.m. dinner. Dish at Dover Bay Cafe, 651 Lakeshore Ave., Sandpoint. $79. Thursday

HallowSWING: From 7 to 8 p.m., there will be lessons for beginners in the ’20s Charleston Series and intermediate and advanced Charleston Stroll/5’2 Series. Then from 8-10 p.m., Strictly Swing will host its weekly swing dance. There also will be costume and pumpkin-carving contests, treats and prizes. 7 p.m. Woman’s Club of Spokane, 1428 W. Trunk or Treat: Decorate your trunk and hand out prepackaged candy (no homemade goods allowed) to 400-500 children. Reservations to participate are requested. 6 p.m. East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone St. Free.

Giant Candyland: At the South Hill Library, visitors are games pieces and the library is the board in a giant version of Candyland. Tasty prizes are up for grabs. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. South Hill Library, 3324 S. Perry St. Free

Campbell House Halloween: Complete a scavenger hunt and create and take home a Halloween activity. There will be candy, fun and crafts for all ages. Costumes welcome. 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, 2316 W. First Ave. $5; free ages 3 and younger. Tickets available through northwestmuseum.org and at the door.

Halloween Party and Costume Contest: Enter the costume contest where the winner takes home $100 cash. Prizes also include shirts, CDs and concert tickets. Hawaii’s Two Knux Deep will perform, as will local hip-hop and EDM artists. 7 p.m. Thursday. The Pin, 412 W. Sprague Ave. Free 21 and older, $5 20 and younger at the door.

Trick or Treat in Downtown Coeur d’Alene: From 4-6 p.m., trick or treat at participating businesses in downtown Coeur d’Alene. Then, stop by 1st Presbyterian Church for Trunk or Treat. 4 p.m. Thursday. Sherman Avenue. Free.

Trick or Treat So All Can Eat: For the third year, WSU College of Nursing students will host a trick-or-treating event for children with dietary restrictions or other special needs. The peanut-free event features carb-counted food and gluten-free options, as well as games, crafts and prizes. Free parking on-site. 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, 1404 N. Ash St. Free.

American Horror Story Halloween: Costume contests, live music, fun and games await at the Roxie. This event is all ages from 5-9 p.m. and 18 and older from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. 5 p.m. The Roxie, 5201 N. Market St. $5 21 and older, $10 ages 20 and younger. Tickets available through Eventbrite.

Multiple Days

Ghoul Ol’ Fashioned Fun: Stop by Camp Dart-Lo for a walk through a not-so-haunted house, a costume parade, ghost stories, dart toss, treat hunt, Roast a Ghost, face painting, ghoul hike, a fortune teller, Halloween bingo, a bake sale, crafts and more. Activities are geared toward pre-K through sixth-graders. Wear warm clothes and sturdy shoes. 4:30-7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Moonlit Monster Cruises: The Coeur d’Alene Resort is offering two versions of its Moonlit Monster Cruises. On the Family Cruise, attendees will find spooky decor, a photo contest, Halloween cocktails and more. First departure at 5 p.m. On the 21 and older cruise, the drinks are stronger, the music is louder, and things are spookier. Family cruises: Friday through Sunday. $10 per person. Colville Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch: There’s still time to check out the 12-acre Colville Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch before it closes on Halloween. 4 p.m. until dark Monday through Friday and 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Colville Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch, 73 Oakshott Road, Colville. Maze is free for ages 4 and younger, $6 for ages 5-12 and $8 for ages 13 and older. Tickets available through colvillecornmaze.com.

SpookWalk in Browne’s Addition: Meet the ghosts of Browne’s Addition on this 1 1/2 hour walking tour. Guests will sing pumpkin carols and drink apple cider, then head out on the tour. Slightly Spooky Celebration: This month, libraries in the Spokane County Library District invite children to celebrate Halloween with “slightly spooky” activities. Scarywood: Run from zombies, evil clowns and more, then experience the rides of Silverwood in the dark at Scarywood, open Saturday and Nov. 1-2. Scarywood is closed on Halloween and is not recommended for ages 12 and younger. 7 p.m.-midnight Saturday, Nov. 1-2. La Resistance Halloween Show: Stop by to see a group Halloween-themed show featuring work by Connie Stout, CarLy Haney, Brian Deemy, Lauralee, Kandi Quasne, Tasko Lopez, Maxwell Blackheart, Michael Sherriffs Hall, Cassidy Adams, Suga Wolf and Kiefer Brown.
