Spokane Valley deputies, K9 apprehend identity theft suspect who drove wrong way on I-90

From staff reports

Spokane Valley deputies arrested a suspect accused of identity theft who allegedly drove the wrong way on Interstate 90, leading police on a vehicular pursuit and subsequent K-9 chase Tuesday night.

Deputies first located the suspect vehicle, driven by Kody M. Scott, 26, at about 11:40 p.m. near North Pines Road and East Mission Avenue after he reportedly drove east on westbound I-90.

As Scott turned onto East Cataldo Avenue, he increased his speed, did not slow down when the deputy activated his emergency lights and sirens, and turned off his headlights, according to a news release.

Deputies deployed spike strips and Scott continued to drive recklessly, the news release said. Adeputy then initiated a PIT maneuver near East Sprague Avenue and North Conklin Road to spin and stop Scott’s vehicle.

But Scott regained control and continued driving, before fleeing from his car, according to the release. A deputy deployed a K-9 as Scott continued to flee.

The K-9 took Scott to the ground and held onto him as Scott tried to wrestle away, according to a news release.

Scott reportedly told deputies he ran because he knew he had an active warrant for second-degree identity theft.

He received medical attention before he was booked into Spokane County Jail on a $15,000 bond for attempting to elude police and four counts of second-degree identity theft.
