U.S. Marshals arrested a suspect Wednesday in Saint Helens, Oregon, in connection with a drive-by shooting in the Emerson/Garfield neighborhood on Aug. 20.

Timothy M. Krenke, 27, was wanted for first degree assault by Spokane police.

Krenke allegedly fired an assault rifle at the driver of another vehicle on Ash Street and Chelan Avenue after a previous altercation, according to a U.S. Marshals Service statement.

Krenke was driving a Mustang at the time of the incident but did not flee in the vehicle, according to the Spokane Police Department. Police searched the car after it was recovered in the Spokane area.

The gun used in the incident was never recovered, according to police.

Bystanders, the driver and a child in the victim’s car were not injured in the shooting, according to Spokane police.

Krenke could not legally possess firearms due to a felony conviction for taking a vehicle without the owner’s permission in Washington, according to police.

Spokane police said Krenke was arrested for several misdemeanors in three other states, including a felon possessing a weapon charge in Oregon, drug possession in Wyoming and assault in Montana.

Krenke fled Spokane to avoid prosecution, according to a U.S. Marshals statement.

Law enforcement officials have begun the extradition process to bring Krenke to Spokane, according to police.
