Spokane Valley police arrest wanted woman after chase

A pursuit in Spokane Valley ended just before 5 a.m. Friday morning after deputies used spike strips and a pursuit intervention technique, or PIT, maneuver to stop the vehicle.

Amy K. McDonald, 33, was driving a gray Honda Odyssey without visible license plates near 4th Ave. and Havana when she drifted over the middle lane, according to a Spokane Valley police statement.

Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Deputy Stephan Blaakman attempted to pull over the van but McDonald allegedly turned and sped up.

McDonald then merged onto I-90, where the pursuit continued to the Argonne exit.

Deputy Blaakman saw McDonald stick her arm out of the window of the vehicle and toss what appeared to be a small baggie, according to a statement.

When the baggie was recovered, police said it contained two pills identified as Clonazepam, which is a schedule 4 controlled substance.

Spike strips were deployed near the intersection of Pines and Sprague that flatted the minivan’s passenger side tires.

McDonald continued to flee until deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the minivan.

McDonald complied with police commands after the her vehicle was stopped and was taken into custody, police said.

McDonald told police she ran because of a Washington State Department of Corrections warrant for her arrest.

She was booked into Spokane County Jail for a felony warrant and was charged with attempting to elude a police vehicle and driving with a suspended license.

Additional charges are possible, police said.
