$1 million bail set for drive-by shooting suspect

A judge set a $1 million bond Friday for the suspect in a May drive-by shooting.

Modesto Briggs, 18, was charged with 11 counts of aggrevated assault after he was arrested by multiple law enforcement agencies Thursday.

On May 16, Briggs went to a house on the 1300 block of East Wabash Avenue, the home of Ja’aziah Tesch, whom Briggs had previously threatened to kill, according to court documents.

Tesch was with a group of 11 friends, including Jsha’ron Young. Police say Briggs fired through the front window of the duplex.

Young was hit in the right forearm, and no one else was injured.

Tesch and Briggs have had conflicts since they were about 14 years old and had a physical altercation just two weeks before the shooting, court documents show.

Witnesses told police the shooting and conflict between the men was related to the murder of Kionte Bullard in 2018.

Briggs’ prior convictions include felony harassment, threats to kill, theft and resisting arrest. His arraignment is set for Sept. 17.
