Homeowner interrupts burglar, Spokane police say

Spokane police say a homeowner interrupted a burglar who was attempting to steal items from a parked car on Monday.

Spokane police responded at about 6:30 a.m. to a report of a residential burglary on the 5200 block of West Alderwood Avenue.

The homeowner said they were loading things into their vehicle through the garage when they briefly went inside, according to an SPD statement. When the homeowner returned, they told police they saw a woman taking a bag out of the back of their car.

The homeowner confronted the woman, who reportedly dropped the bag and got into the passenger seat of a waiting car.

The homeowner gave the police a description of the car, including a license plate number.

Police stopped the car shortly after and arrested 32-year-old Megan Tureman and 51-year-old Duane Yarnell, who was driving the vehicle.

Both were charged with residential burglary.

Yarnell has a long criminal history that includes an arrest late last year for stealing Christmas presents on Christmas Eve.
