Spokane firefighters douse Easter morning garage fire in Browne’s Addition

A garage fire early Sunday morning in Browne’s Addition threatened to spread to nearby apartments before the Spokane Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

A two-story detached garage with a living area on the second floor caught fire at about 7:30 a.m. at 2027 W. Riverside Ave.

The Spokane Fire Department arrived within two minutes of being dispatched. When firefighters arrived they saw fire on the outside of the garage and in the attic of the garage, according to a news release. They were quickly able to put out the fire and keep it from “significantly progressing” in the living area, according to the release.

The siding of the garage and the attic sustained fire damage, with significant smoke damage throughout the garage.

The fire was determined to be accidental due to discarded “smoking materials,” and SFD statement said. The damage was assessed at $20,000. No firefighters or civilians were injured in the blaze.
