Fire in downtown boot store damages building

A fire Wednesday afternoon at Cruz Custom Boots in downtown Spokane caused significant damage to a building but injured no one.

A hot plate in the back of the store sparked the fire at 200 West Main Street, according to fire Chief Brian Shaffer.

There was significant damage to the mezzanine level of the building and the roof, Shaffer said, but not all was lost.

“We saved the building, and we saved the apartments in the back,” Shaffer said.

Some inventory and supplies inside the boot store sustained smoke damage, Shaffer said.
