April 26, 2020 Updated Sun., April 26, 2020 at 5:42 p.m.

A 72-year-old hiker was found dead Sunday near Bridgeman Rettinger Road north of Kettle Falls after being reported missing on Saturday.

The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office received report of an overdue hiker on Saturday morning, according to a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s Office.

Volunteers with Stevens County Emergency Search and Rescue Team, Columbia Basin Search Dogs, the National Park Service and others assisted in the search.

On Sunday the 72-year-old man was found dead by Air 2, a Spokane County search helicopter, in steep terrain. Foul play is not suspected, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“The Sheriff’s Office cannot begin to express our gratitude for all of the assistance we received from so many of our partners,” a statement on their Facebook page read.
