Emu found in High Bridge Park returned to owner

A lost emu was awaiting its owner in the care of the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service Wednesday after people spotted it among disc golfers and trail walkers at High Bridge Park.

An emu found among disc golfers and trial walkers at High Bridge Park Wednesday afternoon has been claimed by its owners at Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service.

The emu “apprehended by SCRAPS” has been returned, said spokesman Jared Webley.

KHQ caught the bird on camera after it was first spotted around 9:30 a.m.Wednesday.

“It was sick of the stay-at-home order I guess,” Webley said with a laugh.

Webley said the owner saw the missing emu in the news and quickly contacted SCRAPS.

SCRAPS officers, Spokane parks staff, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel and Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies weren’t initially equipped to capture the bird, KHQ reported.

SCRAPS caged the emu near People’s Park, KHQ reported.
