Fire in South HIll apartment building quickly contained Monday morning
A fire in a South Hill apartment building was quickly contained Monday and left one resident injured, according to the Spokane Fire Department.
Multiple units from the Spokane Fire Department arrived at the Maple Manor Apartments to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the third floor of the 7-unit building.
The fire was reported at 9:18 a.m., according to the SFD. The apartment building, located at 1608 W. Eighth Ave., was in the process of being evacuated when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters entered the building and stretched handlines to the third floor to attack the fire, according to SFD. At the same time, other crews helped ventilate the heat and smoke through the roof of the building to prevent horizontal spread.
Intense flames reached toward the sky, according to SFD, threatening nearby residences. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the floor of origin and had the fire extinguished within 45 minutes.
One victim was treated for burns and smoke inhalation, according to the SFD. The SFD’s Special Investigation Unit is investigating the fire and will report the extent of the damage along with the cause of the fire.
