Brush fire burning near Dishman Hills

Firefighters quickly knocked down a brush fire that shot flames high into the air near the northwest area of the Dishman Hills natural area on Monday night.

The fire was considered small to medium size according to initial reports from the Spokane Valley Department. It was burning near the 8200 block of Appleway Boulevard near Vista Road.

The fire was across the street from the Carmax auto lot near the popular outdoors area. There were no flames visible after 10:30 p.m. and there was no heavy smell of smoke.

Several trucks from the Spokane Valley Fire Department were on scene. No structures were threatened, according to fire officials.
