A Quincy, Washington, man was arrested in Moses Lake on Wednesday, one day after a “foul odor” led his parents to find human remains in a large bag in his bedroom.
The couple’s son Martin Diaz, 30, left before Quincy Police Department officers arrived at the scene Tuesday night, according to a Quincy Police Department press release. The couple reported the smell to officers, who looked in the bag and found a corpse.
Quincy police said they were looking for Diaz Tuesday.
The Moses Lake Police Department said detectives learned Wednesday that Diaz was in their city. Officers found him Wednesday afternoon on the 900 block of North Stratford Road and took him into custody after a short foot pursuit.
Diaz was convicted of a felony in 2018 for threatening to use force while armed with a deadly weapon.
Police have not identified the body to the public, and the cause and manner of death were pending as of Wednesday evening.
