Argument over parking escalates, leaving men hospitalized with stab wounds

Two men brought themselves to two different hospitals Saturday after a squabble over parking led one man to display a firearm and both being stabbed, according to a Spokane Police Department press release.

Spokane police responded to a report of a stabbing at the Whittier Aquatic Center near Mission Avenue and Perry Street on Saturday around 4 p.m. There, officers found puddles of blood and a broken baton but learned the people involved in the stabbing were gone, the release said.

Officers talked to witnesses and collected evidence at the scene. Shortly after surveying the scene, police learned two different men had arrived at different local hospitals with stab wounds, according to the release.

The men involved in the fight and witnesses told officers the stabbing stemmed from an earlier argument over parking at a different location. After the argument, the men contacted each other at the aquatic center and fought, the release said.

During the fight, one man showed a handgun but did not use it. Both men had stab wounds and other non-life-threatening injuries from the fight, according to the release.

Police are still investigating and encourage any witnesses to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
