Early morning semi-truck vs car crash in Rathdrum sends one person to the hospital

An early morning collision Wednesday involving a semitruck and an SUV south of Rathdrum sent one person to the hospital.

The Idaho State Police responded to a crash on State Highway 53 just south of Rathdrum at milepost 8 just before 3 a.m.

A 1996 Chevy Trailblazer had been traveling east and crossed left of center hitting a 2020 Freightliner semi truck head on, ISP said in a statement.

The driver of the Trailblazer was taken to Kootenai Health but later transferred to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. The injured driver’s condition has not been disclosed.

The driver of the semi was not injured, according to ISP. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The roadway was blocked for more than 3 hours before reopening. ISP said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
