What’s Hoppin’ This Week: Beer calendar includes podcast, First Friday, movies and books

By Greg Wildermuth For The Spokesman-Review

Wednesday

Mountain Lakes Brewing (201 W. Riverside Ave.) hosts its monthly recording of the podcast “Wheat, Wheat, Don’t Tell Me!” in front of a live audience starting at 6:30 p.m. This show features local celebrity guests, discussion about beer and life in the Inland Northwest and opportunities for audience participation. Get there early because space is limited.

Friday

Bon Bon (926 W. Garland Ave.) is celebrating First Friday with a tap takeover featuring Big Barn Brewing starting at 6 p.m. Bon Bon also will be displaying work from a local artist and playing bingo starting at 8 p.m.

River City Brewing (121 S. Cedar St.) is hosting its monthly First Friday garage party featuring music from the Jason Perry Trio. You also can enjoy beer specials and other fun from 6-10 p.m.

MacDuff’s Beer Hall (220 Cedar St., Sandpoint) is celebrating First Friday with music from local country artist Devon Wade. Beer specials, games and other fun also will be available.

Saturday

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway, Downtown Walla Walla is hosting a brew fest from 12-4 p.m. Twenty-five breweries and cider-makers will be on hand at this event across 16 venues throughout downtown. Tickets are $40 in advance or $50 at the door and include a commemorative tasting glass and five sample tokens. Details and tickets: downtownwallawalla.com.

Tuesday

Heritage Bar and Kitchen (122 S. Monroe St.) is hosting a “Blind Book and Brew” event. From 5:30-8:30 p.m., stop in and select a wrapped book from a variety of genres. Each book is $8 and tagged with the genre and its first sentence. Unwrap and start enjoying the book because each book purchased also includes a pint of local beer.

Whistle Punk Brewing (122 S. Monroe St; it shares the same space as Heritage) is continuing its monthly “Cinesplosion” movie night featuring VHS action and horror B-movie classics from the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s. The movie is kept secret until the day of, but I’ve been told the theme this month is “Valentine’s Day.” The movie starts at 7:15 p.m.
