Around the Remote: Fresh seasons start for ‘Idol’ and ‘Outlander’

DON’T MISS: “American Idol” – The quest to discover the nation’s next pop star begins anew as judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan reassemble for audition sessions in Savannah, Georgia; Milwaukee; Washington, D.C.; Sunriver, Oregon; and Los Angeles. Among the early hopefuls are a subway performer from Harlem who gives one of the most emotional auditions in “Idol” history and a garbage collector from Alabama who arrives with no experience but lots of talent and big dreams. (8 p.m. Sunday, ABC).

SUNDAY: Season 5 of “Outlander” finds the Frasers fighting for their family and the home they have forged on Fraser’s Ridge. In this new and dangerous time, they must join together while navigating the many perils that they foresee – and those they don’t. (8 p.m., Starz).

SUNDAY: Television’s reboot craze continues with a fresh update of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” The renovation series arrives with a new host – “Modern Family’s” Jesse Tyler Ferguson – and a new team of designers along with celebrity guests. (9 p.m., HGTV).

MONDAY: Can you feel the anticipation? Season 2 of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” comes to a dramatic close tonight with the crowning of the winner and a finale stuffed with special guests. (8 p.m., NBC).

TUESDAY: “We Are the Dream: The Kids of the Oakland MLK Oratorical Fest” is an uplifting and inspiring documentary that follows young students from across the city of Oakland as they prepare their speeches and poetry for an annual public speaking competition honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (7 p.m., HBO).

TUESDAY: The latest installment of “Frontline” – “Amazon Empire: The Rise and Reign of Jeff Bezos” – examines the global impact of the vast empire built by the richest man in the world. Is there a dark side to the company’s rapid growth? And should we admire it or fear it? (9 p.m., KCDT/KSPS).

WEDNESDAY: Get ready to bid farewell to the primetime members of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. After an extraordinary 15-season run, “Criminal Minds” comes to an end with back-to-back episodes that serve as an open-ended series finale. (9 p.m., CBS).

THURSDAY: On “Last Man Standing,” Mike’s offer to help Jen with her school’s bake sale goes up in smoke when he suggests she set up camp outside Bud’s Buds, a pot dispensary. (8 p.m., Fox).

FRIDAY: Al Pacino tries his hand at series television in “Hunters.” Set in 1977, it’s a conspiracy thriller that follows a band of vigilantes intent on tracking down hundreds of Nazis who are living among us and scheming to create a Fourth Reich in the U.S. (Amazon Prime).

FRIDAY: “Fresh Off the Boat” brings its hilarious run to a close with back-to-back episodes. The final half-hour, titled “Commencement,” finds Jessica grappling with her vision of the future as the boys are each realizing what their own goals are. (8 p.m., ABC).

SATURDAY: Uh-oh, “The Wrong Stepmother” sounds like a creepy good time. In this cable movie, the daughter of a widowed man becomes really suspicious of the new woman in his life. Does she have evil intentions? (8 p.m., Lifetime).
