Kettle Falls man struck by own car after stopping on I-90 onramp on Tuesday

A Kettle Falls man was hospitalized Tuesday morning after his stopped car was struck in the roadway at Argonne Road and Interstate 90, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Steven M. Garwood, 30, was taken by ambulance to Providence Sacred Heart Medical just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to a WSP news release. Garwood had stopped his Ford Mustang in the road after the hood flew open. After he exited the vehicle to secure it, investigators said, his car was struck by a Toyota Camry driven by Zoe M. Meehan, 25, of Spokane.

The Mustang struck Garwood, causing the injury. Both cars were reported totaled. Meehan was wearing a seatbelt and not injured. The eastbound onramp to the interstate was partially closed for some time Tuesday morning.

Garwood was treated at Sacred Heart for injuries and released, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday afternoon.

Both Garwood and Meehan received citations, the WSP said. Garwood for stopping in the roadway, and Meehan for negligent driving.
