Suspicious car, trash can fires reported in north Spokane on Wednesday morning

UPDATED: Wed., Feb. 26, 2020

Firefighters from multiple agencies are investigating after a series of fires targeting cars and a trash can were reported in north Spokane early Wednesday.

Three fires were reported around 3 a.m. in the Town and Country area north of Francis Avenue, said Doug Bleeker, assistant chief of Spokane County Fire District 9.

A car fire was reported at Northstar Lane and North Cedar Street, an area served by the Spokane Fire Department. Another car fire was reported in the 7700 block of North Whitehouse Street, Bleeker said, and a third fire targeting a trash can was reported at Sierra Way and North Weipert Drive.

Investigators were working to determine whether the fires were related.

“They were awfully close to each other,” Bleeker said.

No injuries were reported in the fires, and there were no known witnesses, Bleeker said.
