Beautiful America on Oscar Night
Sunday, Feb. 9, was an exceptional day in Spokane. The sun greeted us warmly, shining, encouraging us to relax, enjoy the day and enjoy one another.
Every year, I like to watch the Oscars. Somehow, they leave me with a feeling that there is beauty and hope and that there will be better times.
This year’s ceremony had no host, but the program’s events were superbly organized. The various presenters were funny and clever, glamorous and to-the-point.
Theirs were the faces and personalities from all cultures and backgrounds, and there was even a lovely young man with Down syndrome introducing us to the next winner.
What a joy! What a change! What compassion, understanding and love! No hostility, no anger, no ugly words!
Just the pure friendship and camaraderie of America’s (and the world’s) diverse entertainers inviting us to an American celebration of all the movie artists who make us laugh and cry, learn and remember. Imagine how much poorer our lives would be without them,
The Oscars, that’s pure Americana, warming up my heart, left me believing that we will not destroy this beautiful, wondrous, enormous land we call home.
After all, we are all Americans wanting this country to be the best, and this year’s group of movie artists, actors and entertainers has just proven it!
