Give a shelter pet a chance

Thank you for the front page article “Captive Canines.” (January 5) Heartbreaking, but hopefully it will remind people to spay and neuter their pets and adopt from shelters and rescue groups.

My senior dog Rusty had been adopted out and returned to the shelter twice before I met her at an adoption event three years ago.

She’s been a perfect match for me. It just takes time to adjust to a new routine.

Please give a shelter pet a chance. Please don’t contribute to the cycle of homelessness by buying from pet stores or breeders while shelter animals are desperately needing loving homes.
