Ben College scores 23 points to guide Whitworth to tight win at George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. – Ben College scored 23 points, and Whitworth collected a 92-90 victory over George Fox in a Northwest Conference men’s basketball game Friday night.
Isaiah Hernandez drilled two free throws with 38 seconds remaining to give the Pirates (11-3, 5-0 NWC) an 89-85 lead. Jackson Januik made 2 of 3 shots from the foul line with 19 seconds left to pull George Fox (6-8, 2-3) within 89-87.
Hernandez was fouled at midcourt on the ensuing possession, and he made two free throws for a 91-87 lead. JD Ahlstrom’s 3-pointer for the Bruins made it a one-point game before College made one of two free throws for the final margin. Ryan Lacey’s half-court heave at the buzzer was short.
Lacey’s two free throws gave George Fox a 75-70 lead with just over 6 minutes remaining, but the Pirates scored 12 of the next 16 points to forge an 82-79 edge. College knocked down a 3-pointer and two free throws during that stretch.
Hernandez finished with 17 points, and Liam Fitzgerald had 14 for the Pirates.
