Valley School District bus slides off road, one student injured

A Valley School District bus slid off the road and onto its side Monday, leaving one child with minor injures.

The bus tipped on its side on West Jump Off Road while taking students home after school.

There were 14 students on the bus. One student had a minor injury that was treated by first responders on scene. All students were released by medical first-responders to a parent or guardian on scene, said Superintendent Ben Ferney.

The Valley School District is located in Stevens County and includes the town of Valley.

The school district is working with insurance to assess the damage, Ferney said.

The bus damage will not affect students getting to school, Ferney said.

“We’re going to be fine in terms of transport,” Ferney said.

Ferney thanked law enforcement for their quick response.

“I’m thankful that there was only one minor injury,” Ferney said. “The safety of our students and staff is our only concern.”
