2 men who drowned in separate incidents at Corbin Park identified

Two men who drowned at Corbin Park over the weekend have been identified by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

Gabriel L. Gardner, 35, from Spokane Valley drowned Friday while trying to retrieve his wife and child from a kayak that capsized just before 6 p.m. Friday.

The woman and child, who were wearing life jackets, made it to safety. Gardner was not wearing a life jacket, the sheriff’s office said.

Under similar circumstances, James Cysewski, 58, of Hauser Lake, drowned Saturday.

Cysewski fell into the river after launching a kayak holding two life jacket-wearing young children, according to the sheriff’s office. His body was recovered the next day.
