Car with juveniles inside crashes into a building on Division Street

A car crashed into a building on the 2900 block of North Division Street Friday night, sending two juveniles to the hospital.

One juvenile could lose his eye due to the collision, according to a Spokane Police Department news release.

Spokane Police Officers responded at about 10 p.m., when witnesses described the car traveling southbound at a high speed on Division Street before striking the center median, which caused the driver to lose control. The car went through a section of bushes before crashing into a building, the news release said.

Of the four people in the car, one ran away from the scene and the two juvenile passengers were transported to a local hospital for their injuries, according to the release.

Driver Joshua Stricklin, 21, showed signs of impairment so police called a drug recognition expert to the scene. The expert determined Stricklin was under the influence, the release said, and police arrested him for vehicular assault.

Drugs and alcohol appeared to be a factor in the collision, but it is still under investigation.

“While celebrating our Independence Day the Spokane Police Department wants to remind everyone to be safe and drink responsibly,” the release said. “If you smoke marijuana, the Spokane Police Department wants you to use responsibly as well.”
