East Central shooting reported after bloody victim entered stranger’s apartment

Police first heard about a Wednesday shooting in East Central from a resident who reported that the victim of a shooting, a stranger to the caller, had entered their residence covered in blood, according to a Spokane Police Department news release.

The first two officers on scene found the victim laying on the sidewalk outside the residence on the 1700 block of East First Avenue near Madelia Street.

An officer began to triage the victim and discovered two bleeding wounds on the victim’s leg, according to the release.

The officer applied a tourniquet, which controlled the bleeding, and transferred care of the patient to the Spokane Fire Department.

Paramedics transported the victim to an area hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.

Major Crimes detectives responded and took over the investigation. Using a search warrant for another residence at the location, detectives recovered a firearm and an improvised explosive device, which the SPD Explosive Device Unit collected.

No suspects have been identified or located. The victim and many witnesses were refusing to cooperate and provide information about the shooting, the release said.

Police ask that residents with information call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233 and reference incident #2020-20116185.
