Downtown Spokane shooting leaves one hospitalized

Spokane police responded to, but have not made an arrest in, a downtown shooting that left one person hospitalized early Saturday morning.

An employee at a local restaurant reported hearing a gunshot around 2:40 a.m. He said  there had been multiple people in the area who scattered when the gun fired, according to a Spokane Police Department news release .

An SPD K9 handler was first to the scene on Division Street, near the Interstate 90 overpass. The release says the handler located the victim, who suffered a gunshot wound in the upper abdomen, and the handler provided medical care.

Responding officers said the victim was “less than cooperative” and did not want to provide law enforcement with information. The victim was stable and transported to a local hospital.

Officers found a single live round of ammunition, a baggie containing a white powder substance and a “military or multipurpose” shovel at the scene.

There is no suspect information, and police do not think the shooting was a random act.
