Spokane County Jail staff are isolating an inmate who is accused of dragging a deputy with his minivan on Friday after he said he had been around a person with COVID-19.

Kurt O. Clinton has not tested positive for COVID-19 and has not shown symptoms of having it, but he has been isolated in a negative airflow cell since he was booked into jail.

Clinton was charged with second-degree assault after he dragged a sheriff’s deputy when he tried to flee during a traffic stop. During his first appearance Monday, he was isolated from other inmates.

Spokane County Spokesman Jared Webley said there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases in the jail and staff are taking precautions and meeting with the Health District every week. No detention services workers have been quarantined.

“They are taking every precaution that they can with these incoming inmates,” he said.
