Pedestrian dies after being struck by car near Airway Heights

One person is dead after being hit by a car on U.S. Highway 2 near Airway Heights Thursday morning.

Police responded just before 4:30 a.m. to reports of a pedestrian hit by a car on U.S. 2 west of Flint Road. Medics responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Spokane Police Department Sgt. Terry Preuninger.

Highway 2 was closed in the area for a few hours but reopened before 7:30 a.m.

Hours before the incident Spokane police received reports of a man running into the road in the same area, Preuninger said. Police are investigating a possible connection between the two calls.

The driver was uninjured and remained on scene. Preuninger said the motorist was cooperative and released.

An investigation into the crash is on-going.
