UW to develop rural nursing clinical placement program with Premera grant
With a $4.7 million grant from Premera Blue Cross, the University of Washington School of Nursing will develop an initiative to put nurses in rural areas for clinical placements.
The Rural Nursing Health Initiative will be built in a four-year period, supporting 20 students a year. The program will help create clinical placements for advanced practice registered nurse students in rural areas throughout the state.
Students from UW, Seattle University, Washington State University, Pacific Lutheran University, Seattle Pacific University and Gonzaga University will all be eligible to apply for the Rural Health Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program after graduation. UW and WSU nursing faculty will study the program’s outcomes.
