Adam Beckman scores three goals as Spokane Chiefs defeat Red Deer 5-1

From staff reports

Western Hockey League scoring leader Adam Beckman netted his third hat trick of the season and added an assist as the Spokane Chiefs defeated the host Red Deer Rebels 5-1 Friday night.

Ty Smith added a goal and two assists and Michael King also scored for the Chiefs (39-18-4-1), who won their season-high eighth game in a row and improved to 5-0 against Central Division teams.

The Chiefs will look to complete a season sweep of Central foes when they play at Calgary on Saturday night.

Chiefs goaltender James Porter Jr., a native of Bonners Ferry, stopped 32 of 33 shots to win his eighth consecutive decision. Porter was credited with an assist on Beckman’s goal at 13:49 of the second period that proved to be the winner.

King gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead at 7:07 of the first period.

Beckman and Smith scored 2:48 apart in the second period to make it 3-0 before Red Deer’s Cameron Hausinger netted a power-play goal at 18:07 to cut the Chiefs’ lead to two.

Beckman tallied 53 seconds into the third to make it 4-1 and he capped the scoring with a power-play goal at 18:18.
