Adam Beckman scores three goals as Spokane Chiefs defeat Red Deer 5-1
Western Hockey League scoring leader Adam Beckman netted his third hat trick of the season and added an assist as the Spokane Chiefs defeated the host Red Deer Rebels 5-1 Friday night.
Ty Smith added a goal and two assists and Michael King also scored for the Chiefs (39-18-4-1), who won their season-high eighth game in a row and improved to 5-0 against Central Division teams.
The Chiefs will look to complete a season sweep of Central foes when they play at Calgary on Saturday night.
Chiefs goaltender James Porter Jr., a native of Bonners Ferry, stopped 32 of 33 shots to win his eighth consecutive decision. Porter was credited with an assist on Beckman’s goal at 13:49 of the second period that proved to be the winner.
King gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead at 7:07 of the first period.
Beckman and Smith scored 2:48 apart in the second period to make it 3-0 before Red Deer’s Cameron Hausinger netted a power-play goal at 18:07 to cut the Chiefs’ lead to two.
Beckman tallied 53 seconds into the third to make it 4-1 and he capped the scoring with a power-play goal at 18:18.
