Standoff that forced delay of East Valley schools ends with multiple arrests

From staff reports

Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies detained multiple people after a standoff at a Spokane Valley apartment.

Law enforcement closed Pines Road between Marietta Avenue and Mirabeau Parkway as a result of the standoff, and the East Valley School District delayed the start of classes by 90 minutes.

Sheriff’s spokesman Cpl. Mark Gregory said the deputies were at the scene because they traced the suspect from an earlier chase involving the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police to the apartment. Gregory said the chase in Idaho occurred around 2:30 a.m., and officers believe they witnessed gunfire coming from the car. The suspect’s vehicle escaped before being tracked to the apartment.

Gregory said people were detained from a vehicle and from within an apartment at the scene.

Investigation into the incident will be led by federal law enforcement because the chase occurred on the Coeur d’Alene Reservation, Gregory said.
