Man arrested near SFCC after SWAT team called

A domestic violence suspect was arrested near Spokane Falls Community College Friday afternoon after fleeing from police the day before.

Charles E. Washington is suspected of attacking a woman in front on her children and violating an existing protection order, according to a Spokane Police Department statement.

Washington fled the scene of the crime before police arrived.

He was arrested at an apartment complex near the Magnuson Building on the SFCC campus midday Friday. The SWAT team was called and had started setting up when Washington surrendered.

SFCC locked down the Magnuson Building for about an hour while the SWAT team was active.

Washington was wanted for first degree burglary, second degree assault, second degree malicious mischief, felony domestic violence protection order violation and third degree theft. He has 13 previous convictions, including four felonies.
