A man and a woman were rushed to the hospital late Saturday evening after receiving burns in a fire that started in a basement in the Emerson/Garfield neighborhood.
The fire in the 1900 block of West Knox Avenue was reported just before 11 p.m. Saturday, according to a Spokane Fire Department news release.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and limit damage to a single level of the building. The man and woman were taken to the hospital by private car before the firefighters’ arrival. The man has been transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, while the woman is receiving treatment at a local hospital, the fire department said.
An investigation into the blaze is ongoing.
