Pedestrian hit by vehicle on Thanksgiving dies in Lewiston

A man was killed in Lewiston after a car struck him as he crossed the street on Thanksgiving Day.

A black Jeep traveling northbound struck the man in the 600 block of 21st Street at about 7:46 p.m., according to Lewiston Police.

The Lewiston Fire Department responded to provide medical treatment, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was not immediately identified by police, who were still working to notify family members on Thursday evening.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene, according to police. They do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The incident forced the closure of the street’s northbound lanes between 8th Avenue and Main Street for about 2.5 hours.

Any witnesses to the crash who have not already spoken to police are asked to call Lewiston Police at (208) 746-0171 and speak to Lt. Jeff Klone.
