CMR and Trump

The Spokesman-Review used to have an actual editorial board. It now has only one voice, Publisher Stacey Cowles, who omitted an important fact in his October 11 political endorsement for Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers.

His editorial criticizes her opponent, Democrat Dave Wilson, for linking his critiques of McMorris Rodgers to President Trump, saying she’s merely “a member of the same party.” Cowles conspicuously fails to mention that McMorris Rodgers is the 5th District campaign chair for the re-election of Trump, the worst president in our nation’s history.

Her stance towards Trump? Near-total silence as he misled Americans about the pandemic, viciously separated babies from their parents at the southern border, denied proven Russian involvement on his behalf in the 2016 elections, paid less federal taxes than a local grocery store worker, denied climate change, corrupted the Justice Department — and now wants to turn the U.S. Supreme Court into a Trumpian majority to destroy the Affordable Care Act and women’s reproductive rights.

There are many anti-Trump yard signs in my South Hill neighborhood, including some that say “anyone but Trump.” McMorris Rodgers has tied her political fortunes to Trump, and she should also be defeated on Nov. 3.
