More faulty sex education
The Sept. 27 endorsement of sex education ballot measure Referendum 90 was indeed disappointing but not at all surprising. Many previous editorials from the Spokesman-Review staff have been liberal for our conservative city. Thus, I expect history to repeat itself with the majority of Spokane and Eastern Washington voters rejecting this view. But West Side voters must also oppose this referendum for it to fail.
Indeed, this issue is a big deal as stated otherwise. The fact of the matter is, medically accurate sex education would not be provided in public schools. State Superintendent Chris Reykdal couldn’t be further from the truth stating that age-appropriate concepts would be taught per grade level. As kindergartners would even receive what would be called “instruction,” only devastating harm would be instilled in their minds.
This referendum is as bad as Planned Parenthood’s ill-fated “Get Real” curriculum, which naturally has their support. No wonder parents oppose another that is just as faulty.
As I have now received my ballot in the mail, I have voted to reject Referendum 90, and for Reykdal’s opponent Maia Espinoza for state superintendent who is horrified by the mandate of this referendum.
