Sacred Heart security detains man for car prowling
Police arrested a 26-year-old man Sunday for breaking into vehicles near Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Security officers at the hospital used a Taser to stop Michael Atchison and place him handcuffs until police arrived, according to Spokane police.
A second man initially suspected was released.
The Sacred Heart security guard told SPD he responded to a vehicle prowling call at a parking lot near Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. There he reviewed security footage and saw a man in dark clothing breaking into vehicles.
Security found Atchison, who matched the prowler’s description, in Cowley Park, according to a news release from SPD.
SPD found a large variety of stolen items including backpacks and electronic devices.
Police Officers reviewed the security footage and found multiple cars with damage.
The actions of the trained security officer who discharged their Tazer are under review, per normal operations. according to Providence.
Atchison was charged with 11 counts of vehicle prowling and one count of malicious mischief. He has a pending assault with a deadly weapon charge from May and prior convictions including money laundering, assault with a deadly weapon, theft and possession of stolen property.
