Spokane Arts announces 2020 Arts Award nominees, event performers

Spokane Arts announced Thursday the nominees for the 2020 Spokane Arts Awards, as well as the names of those performing during the live virtual event.

The award ceremony, planned for Sept. 26, will be livestreamed from Lucky You Lounge and feature a variety of performances and the presentation of the awards, which highlight individuals and arts and cultural organizations that enrich the community.

Spokane Arts Awards are given in four categories: leadership, collaboration, imagination and inclusion. Community members submitted nominations during an open public call. Winners are selected by a panel of arts commissioners and community arts representatives.

The nominees in the Leadership category are Ashley DeMolville, Bethany Taylor, Dean Cameron, Juan Mas, Marshall Peterson, One Heart Native Arts and Film Festival, Sam Moore, Sandra Williams, Spokane Public Radio, Spokane Chinese Association and Suzanne Ostersmith.

The nominees in the Collaboration category are Caleb Ingersoll, Carl Richardson, Fall Folk Festival, Feast World Kitchen, Kate Vita, Morgan Walters, Ryker Beard, Seven2 and 14Four, and Stage Left Theater.

The nominees in the Imagination category are Amber Hoit, Desmond Boston, Justin Frick, Leyna Krow, Nefabit, Robert Sletner, Shantell Jackson, Spartan Theatre, Susan Webber and Sylvia Fountaine.

The nominees in the Inclusion category are Audrey Overstreet, Helen Parson, Jeremy Whittington, June Sanders, Nickie Shek, Spokane Poetry Slam, Spokane Youth Symphony and Spokane Theater Arts Council.

The awards ceremony will feature dance from the Spokane Chinese Association, live music from DJ Darrien Mack, words of hope from local artists,and early looks at new books from Jess Walter and Kathryn Smith. Emma Noyes, author, illustrator and Spokane Arts Commissioner, will host the event with Mack.
