Briefs For Saturday

The Kootenai County Commission on Wednesday night delayed its decision on a planned 57-home subdivision in Post Falls after receiving requests for a delay.

Both the Greenferry Water and Sewer District and Idaho Department of Environmental Quality sought the delay so that the applicant, Bayshore Estates, could perform what’s called a nutrient-pathogen analysis to show whether septic tanks would endanger the Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer.

Neighbors are seeking to stop the development because they fear that 57 new septic tanks could endanger their drinking wells.

The commission sent the development back to the Kootenai County Hearing Examiner for a hearing on Nov. 19.

Markets close out tough week

NEW YORK – Wall Street closed out its worst week since June with another day of churning trading Friday, as big technology stocks resumed their suddenly weakened ways.

The S&P 500 rose 1.78, or 0.1%, to 3,340.97, but only after a roller-coaster day in which a gain of 0.9% gave way to a loss of 0.9%.

The Nasdaq composite, which includes many of the superstar tech companies, stocks that have been the focus of the market’s recent selling, lost 66.05, or 0.6%, to 10,853.55 after also flip-flopping between gains and losses. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 131.06, or 0.5%, to 27,665.64.
