Motorcyclist dies after crash in west Spokane

Spokane County sheriff's deputies and medical personnel respond to the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash on Government Way near Greenwood Road on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020. (Spokane County Sheriff's Office)

A motorcyclist died Saturday night after failing to negotiate a curve and crashing in west Spokane.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded shortly after 7 p.m. after the man crashed on Government Way near Greenwood Road. Deputies and medical personnel attempted to revive the man, who had severe injuries, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said the man apparently had been traveling south on Government Way when he failed to make a left turn. He “laid the bike down” sideways and fell off it, while the bike continued sliding south and struck a vehicle parked in the driveway of a nearby home, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash. The sheriff’s office did not release the man’s name.
