Netflix in December: Lovers, bullets and knives

December is a time for holiday movies, which is no surprise. But Netflix will be offering far more than simple Santa Claus tales.
Here are some of the more interesting streaming choices for this last month of 2022.
Available now:
“Lady Chatterly’s Lover” : Emma Corrin stars as the protagonist of D.H. Lawrence’s steamy novel about a an upper-class English woman, married to a baronet who was wounded in World War I (played by Matthew Duckett), who embarks on an affair with the family gamekeeper (played by Jack O’Donnell).
“Bullet Train” : Brad Pitt leads an ensemble cast, which includes Sandra Bullock, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, Bad Bunny and Michael Shannon in this spy caper about multiple assassins fighting to the death on a Japanese conveyance mentioned in the film’s title.
“Emily the Criminal” : Aubrey Plaza stars as a young woman, encumbered by student debt, who seek an easy way out of her situation – not altogether legally.
Available on Friday:
“Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” : Yes, when a filmmaker puts his name before a classic tale’s title, you’re going to see something different. Guillermo del Toro doesn’t do Carlo Collodi, or Disney for that matter, but he does take aspects of both to relate some sense of the story of a wooden puppet who becomes a real boy.
Available Dec. 23rd:
“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” : The sequel to 2019’s “Knives Out” has Daniel Craig returning to head an ensemble cast, including Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn and Hugh Grant in another murder mystery. This one is set on a Greek island.
Available Dec. 30th:
“White Noise” : Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig and Don Cheadle headline this Noah Baumbach adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel, which I wrote about on Tuesday.
Not a Santa among the bunch. The cynical among us give thanks for that.
