Trump’s announces launch of $99 digital playing cards
A 2024 running mate?
New Twitter posts?
Nope and nope.
Former President Donald Trump Thursday launched a set of $99-a-pop Trump-themed trading cards after he got the political world buzzing with a promised “MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT!”
“Very much like a baseball card, but hopefully much more exciting,” Trump posted on his social media site. “Would make a great Christmas gift. Don’t wait. They will be gone, I believe, very quickly!”
Trump hyped the coming reveal on Wednesday by posting a cartoon depiction of himself in a Superman outfit.
“America needs a superhero,” Trump wrote on his social media site.
Turns out, he meant: Americans need to fork over 100 bucks for a “limited edition card featur(ing) amazing ART of my Life & Career!”
The “digital trading cards” aren’t even physical cards. Buyers get them sent to their phones or computers.
“Start collecting 1, 10 or 100,” the pitch reads. “Instantly become part of a new league of collectors.”
Buffeted by a string of grim poll results and legal setbacks, Trump was expected to make a serious move perhaps aimed at boosting his sputtering 2024 presidential campaign.
Trump has already launched his comeback, so some thought he was planning to name a possible 2024 running mate, a way of grabbing attention and possibly regaining some lost political momentum.
He was recently reinstated to Twitter by new owner Elon Musk, leading others to think he was going to tell the world he would start posting on the platform again.
There was even speculation that Trump planned to announce a run for Speaker of the new Republican-led House. The post has always been held by a member of Congress although that is not technically a requirement.
Although there would be myriad downsides to a run for speaker, it could force other prominent Republicans to take sides, giving Trump a new opportunity to flex his muscle within the GOP.
