Trio with Spokane ties to discuss Black experiences

It’s Black History Month , a time to reflect on the experiences that Black Americans have had since they first began being transported across the ocean to what was then mostly a European colony.

That reflection works both ways, too. Because those same peoples clearly have left an indelible mark on American culture as a whole.

To help mark the two sides of that process, but with local flavor, The Spokesman-Review’s Northwest Passages program will hold an in-person event on Feb. 16 titled “Spokane Black Stories” featuring a trio of local personalities. NAACP President and Spokesman-Review columnist Kiantha Duncan will engage in a public conversation with television producer Mandi Price and Spokesman-Review reporter Amber B. Dodd.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Montvale Event Cente r, 1019 W. First Ave. Tickets costs $6, and seating will be limited. Click here to purchase tickets .

Price – credited as Amanda Kay Price – is a graduate both of Shadle Park High School and Gonzaga University and is a producer on the Netflix series “Archive 81.” She got her start in television at Spokane’s KHQ channel 6 before heading for Los Angeles, where she’s worked on such shows as “Rizzoli & Isles” and “Little Fires Everywhere.”

Dodd is The Spokesman Review /Black Lens Carl Maxey Racial and Equity reporter.

Doors will open at 6:30. Oh, and pay attention: As the instructions say, “Proof of COVID19 vaccination is required for entry to the event.”
