Gonzaga’s Nolan Hickman scores 13 points in Summer League finale with Dallas Mavericks
Nolan Hickman made sure his final opportunity with the Dallas Mavericks at NBA Summer League did not go to waste.
The former Gonzaga guard capitalized on extended playing time in a Summer League finale against the Orlando Magic, scoring 13 points off the bench to help the Mavericks team pull away early and create more separation in the second half of a 92-69 victory.
With Dallas shutting down No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg after two games in Las Vegas and former Gonzaga backcourt mate Ryan Nembhard after three, Hickman was in line for an expanded role in the team’s final two games.
Hickman played 18 combined minutes and scored three total points in the Mavs’ third and fourth games, but the undrafted guard benefited from more floor time on Friday, playing 17 minutes against Orlando. Gonzaga’s leader in 3-point percentage last season, Hickman finished 5 of 9 from the field and connecting on 3 of 5 3-pointers.
The All-West Coast Conference first-team selection demonstrated other aspects of his offensive skill set. In a highlight clip posted to the Mavericks’ social media accounts, Hickman was shown using a hesitation dribble move to get past Orlando’s Jaden Akins before finishing at the rim with a right-handed scoop shot.
Hickman added two rebounds and one assist, finishing plus-4 in his 17 minutes.
