Tim Dahlberg: Intrigue building in series of heavyweight fights

They are a flawed group at best, the heavyweights who will be vying for your attention – and money – over the next few months. Unpredictable, too, though that just adds to the intrigue of a trio of fights that will either make boxing’s big men must-see TV or relegate the division to the doldrums once again.

Canelo Alvarez stops Sergey Kovalev in 11th round to win 175-pound title

Canelo Alvarez used a big punch to beat a big fighter. Alvarez landed a left-right late in the 11th round Saturday night, dropping Sergey Kovalev to the canvas and ending their light heavyweight title fight. Kovalev was left on his knees, his arms draped over the middle ring rope as the fight was stopped at 2:15 of the round.

Errol Spence wants to show he’s best welterweight in world

Errol Spence is in an enviable position as he returns to the ring Saturday night in a welterweight title fight against Shawn Porter. There’s a possible fight with Manny Pacquiao looming. Perhaps a fight with fellow champion Terence Crawford after that. And, of course, millions of dollars to be made.

Vasyl Lomachenko beats Luke Campbell, adds 3rd lightweight belt

Vasyl Lomachenko’s big goal in boxing is to become unified champion in one weight category. He’s one win away from achieving that dream. Considered among the world’s greatest pound-for-pound fighters, Lomachenko added the vacant WBC belt to his WBA and WBO titles at lightweight with a unanimous points win over Britain’s Luke Campbell on Saturday.

Anthony Joshua-Andy Ruiz Jr. rematch set for Dec. 7 in Saudi Arabia

Anthony Joshua’s promoters say his world heavyweight title rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr. will take place in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, on Dec. 7. The British fighter will be trying to win back the IBF, WBA and WBO belts he lost to Ruiz at New York’s Madison Square Garden on June 1. Ruiz, an American, had insisted that the rematch take place back in the U.S. or at a neutral venue. Diriyah is a town on the outskirts of Riyadh, the Saudi Arabian capital.

Tyson Fury stays unbeaten, stops Tom Schwarz late 2nd round

Tyson Fury stopped Tom Schwarz with 6 seconds left in the second round Saturday night. The British heavyweight star remained unbeaten and put on a show in his Las Vegas debut. Fury made short work of his previously unbeaten German opponent, battering him with a jab before knocking him down to a knee in the second round right after Schwarz landed a big punch.

No Garden upset: Gennady Golovkin knocks out Steve Rolls in 4th round

Gennady Golovkin’s return to the ring was a short one as he knocked out Steve Rolls with 51 seconds remaining in the fourth round of their super middleweight fight. There were not titles on the line, and Triple G made sure there was no stunner like Andy Ruiz Jr.’s upset of Anthony Joshua for four heavyweight belts last weekend in the same Madison Square Garden ring.

Triple G awaits Garden bout knowing what befell Anthony Joshua there

Gennady Golovkin is all too aware of what happened at Madison Square Garden – Andy Ruiz Jr. jolted Anthony Joshua in a monumental boxing upset. Golovkin promises there will be no such repeat when he meets Steve Rolls. The fighter known as Triple G says all boxers should have learned a lesson from Joshua-Ruiz.
