Jerry Kelly shot a 7-under 65 to take the first-round lead in his hometown American Family Insurance Championship. Kelly played the back nine at University Ridge in 5-under 31. David Frost was a stroke back, and tournament host Steve Stricker was at 67 with Kirk Triplett, David Toms, Duffy Waldorf, Corey Pavin and Tom Gillis. John Daly topped the group at 68.

Scott Parel shoots 66, opens 5-shot lead in Iowa

Scott Parel shot a 6-under 66 on Saturday to extend his lead to five strokes in the PGA Tour Champions’ Principal Charity Classic. Parel had a 15-under 129 total at Wakonda Club to break the tournament 36-hole record of 13 under set a year ago by eventual winner Tom Lehman.

Scott McCarron took a three-stroke lead Saturday in the PGA Tour Champions’ Insperity Invitational, overcoming a stiff neck to complete a 5-under 67 in the storm-delayed first round and shoot a 65 in the second. McCarron was in the middle of his second hole Friday when lightning and heavy rain wiped out most of the play at The Woodlands Country Club. He won the Mitsubishi Electric Classic two weeks ago in Georgia for his ninth senior title.

Ken Tanigawa birdied the first three holes for a share of the lead with Tim Petrovic when first-round play in the PGA Tour Champions’ Insperity Invitational was suspended because of lightning and heavy rain. Play at The Woodlands Country Club was stopped at 12:17 p.m. because of lightning and called off for the day at 2:55 p.m. Petrovic completed six holes.

Tom Pernice Jr. and Scott Hoch stretched their lead to three strokes in the PGA Tour Champions’ Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf, shooting a 6-under 48 on the Top of the Rock par-3 course at windy Big Cedar Lodge. After opening with a 9-under 62 on Friday in best-ball play at Ozarks National to take a one-stroke lead, Pernice and Hoch had seven birdies and a bogey on two trips around the par-3 layout, playing modified alternate shot in one nine and best ball in the other.

Tom Pernice Jr. and Scott Hoch teamed to shoot a 9-under 62 in best-ball play at Ozarks National to take the first-round lead in the PGA Tour Champions’ Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf. The teams of Shaun Micheel-Loren Roberts, Ken Tanigawa-Gene Sauers and Roger Chapman-David Frost were a stroke back.
