Gonzaga freshman Zach Collins making most of his minutes

When Przemek Karnowski was a freshman, he played 10.7 minutes per game behind Kelly Olynyk, Elias Harris and Sam Dower. When Domantas Sabonis was a freshman, he came off the bench behind Karnowski and Kyle Wiltjer. Zach Collins is in that pipeline now, carving out quality minutes as a freshman while in line to be Gonzaga’s next big thing.

Russell Westbrook often has taken over as a scorer in the second half when his team has needed scoring punch. This time, he pushed his Oklahoma City Thunder over the top as a facilitator. Westbrook still scored 31 points, but he had 10 of his 15 assists in the second half of a 112-100 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night.

There are a few ways this can go. The entry pass can find Domantas Sabonis, who maneuvers for a soft, left-handed jump hook. Or the entry pass leads Sabonis for a two-handed dunk, followed by a double-arm flex and primal shouts. Or the entry pass never comes, despite Sabonis demanding the ball with a post defender pinned deep in the paint.

WCC adjusting future conference schedules

Attended media day Tuesday and came up with my weekly Gonzaga notebook. Here's my article. I covered the WCC's decision to move the opening of the conference schedule to late December again instead of pre-Christmas for at least the next three seasons, Domantas Sabonis' rebounding...
