This one-pot pumpkin, black beans and rice recipe makes cleanup a breeze

My husband and I have an I-cook-you-clean arrangement. But that doesn’t mean that after cooking, I sit down and relax while he handles the entire mess. No, it’s really more that I cook, and we both clean. I try to keep the mess under control as I’m chopping and sautéing, and after we eat, I put away the food.

Dorothy Dean presents: Turkey pot pie is an ultimate comfort food

There’s a handful of dishes that scream comfort food to me, and pot pie is one of them. With a deliciously creamy filling, chock-full of meat and veggies, and tender flaky crust, it’s easily one of my favorite foods to warm both the belly and soul. This spin on the classic dish turns the pot pie into a slab pie by making it in a sheet pan.

The Full Suburban: Farewell, Crock-Pot, you served us well

I had to buy a new Crock-Pot a few weeks ago to replace the one we got for our wedding back in 2001. I wasn’t happy about replacing it. I’m a sentimental person, and, although it was ugly and limited in function (one dial: low or high), it had served me well for almost two decades.

An Instant Pot picnic with pate, savory cheesecake and dessert

I came across a recipe for country pate, a dish I had never tackled, done in the Instant Pot. Brilliant! Instead of being mildly overwhelmed by foil-wrapped bricks, water baths and caul fat, why not pressure cook your forcemeat in a canning jar?

Brian Lehman has been scrambling to find a new location for his state-licensed cannabis farm since receiving a cease-and-desist order from Yakima County officials. Now, the county is seeking an abatement order in Yakima County Superior Court to enter his property, shut down his business and remove any unpermitted structures, equipment or products, including marijuana.

Federal legalization of hemp creates quandary for U.S. police

Police officers who encounter shipments of state-certified hemp on America’s highways are facing a quandary: They can’t tell if the plants they’re seeing are hemp or marijuana. Truckers are free to haul hemp from state to state after the federal legalization of hemp late last year. But hemp and marijuana look and smell alike, and the only way to distinguish them is by measuring their THC. Officers currently lack the technology to do that testing on the spot.

New Jersey Senate postpones vote on legal recreational pot

New Jersey lawmakers dealt a blow to the prospects of legal recreational marijuana use Monday, when the state Senate president postponed a vote after his and the governor’s lobbying campaign failed to muster enough support in the chamber.

Yakima County prepares to shut down marijuana businesses in unincorporated areas

YAKIMA – Yakima County is taking legal action to shut down more than 20 banned recreational marijuana businesses operating in unincorporated areas of the county. County officials gave the businesses until March 1 to cease operations or be shut down by force. On Monday, county authorities were preparing legal complaints seeking warrants to enter those businesses and shut them down, said Don Anderson, who heads the county’s civil division.
