Mayor Condon selects Assistant Chief Craig Meidl to lead Spokane Police Department

Spokane Mayor David Condon bypassed all the candidates to be the next Spokane Police chief and selected Assistant Chief Craig Meidl to lead the department. The surprise announcement means Condon opted against hiring the two finalists who interviewed for the job last month in forums last month. They were Robert Lehner, the 61-year-old chief of police in Elk Grove, California, and Yakima Police Chief Dominic Rizzi Jr., 54.
